A New Baby Boy!!!

Jana gave birth to our third child, Jacob Scott Burningham, this past Friday at 8:07 AM. He was 8 lbs. 5 oz. and 20 1/2 inches long. He was a scheduled c-section and everything went as planned. Both mom and baby are doing well. We made the decision not find out if the baby was a girl or a boy, like we have done with our previous two kids. I think we all secretly hoping for a boy, but were prepared to have another girl. When the doctor said "It's a boy!", I think we were all very surprised.

We are very happy and feel very blessed to have this new little guy in our family. Here are a few pictures of Jacob and his family.

BUNKBEDS!!!

I started a little project a few weeks ago... Jana and I were walking through a furniture store and saw some bunk beds. We thought that the girls would probably like them and it would create a little extra space in their bedroom. I saw the price of the bunk beds and told Jana, "there ain't no way I'm gunna pay that much for some stupid bunk beds when I can build 'em myself!" (As I turned my head to the side and spat on the floor). And so we were off to the Home Depot to buy some 2x6's. As we rummaged through the warped, split and knotty lumber trying to find the perfect boards, I started thinking, "Maybe I shouldn't have acted so tough and maybe we should just have bought the stupid bunkbeds at the store." So much for that idea...

Here is the finished project. After hours and hours and hours of sanding and staining, cutting and screwing, this is what we ended up with. (I will say I think it turned out better than the one at the store).

The top bunk is a twin and bottom is a full size mattress.

Off to the races... We have had it for nearly a month now and no one has fallen off. (Knock on wood).

I think you will have to agree that the craftsmanship on this bed is amazing. ;-)

Ashley's B-day

Ella's First Day of School

Today was a big day for our family. It was Ella's first day of school. I took the day off so that I could take part in the preparations and see her off. We can't believe that we have a kindergartener... She has grown up to fast.

Ella was very brave and excited about her first day of school. There was no hesitation stepping on to the bus. She was excited to take this next big step in her life. Ashley was a little jealous she didn't get to get on the bus and that she had to stay home with Mom and Dad, but she got over it.

When Ella got home we asked her how her days was and if she liked it. She said, "It's a long story..." Needless to say, we weren't able to get much out of her at first. But from the comments she made later in the day, I think that she had a good time and made some friends.

We are very proud of Ella and know that she is going to be a great student. She is very smart and is a good example for us in our family.

Ella really likes the bus, and it is a good thing. She has a half hour bus ride to and from school each day.

A Tea Party At Grandma's

Ella and Ashley were both able to go over to Grandma Dixie's today and have a Tea Party with their cousin Kate. This Tea Party was the last one they would have before Ella starts school. The tea party included a light luncheon with a few hors d'oeuvres (that's French for snacks) and a special craft project for the girls to do. Enjoy the pictures!!!

Some Summer Fun

We have had a pretty eventful summer so far, spending a lot of time with family and friends. Grandma and Grandpa also got a new house trailer and we have had some fun camping trips. Here are a few pictures...

The Baby!!!

We just had the 20 week ultrasound today, here are a few pictures of the baby. The due date is December 25th. And for those of you wondering if it is a boy or girl, you can keep on wondering. We haven't found out on the previous two and we are not going to find out on this one. We need to have some surprises in life... And don't give me the, "it's a surprise when you find out at the ultrasound" or "what are you going to do for clothes if you don't find out". Those are just weak excuses. (We have some upset Grandparents that sent monetary bribes to the ultrasound tech, but were unsuccessful.)

Ella and Ashley keep referring to the baby as a boy... I don't think they understand that we don't have a lot of say in the matter. We took them both with us to the ultrasound... Ashley keep wanting to know when they were going to cut mom open and get the baby out. I don't think either one of them were impressed with the picture quality.

I think we are all hoping for a boy. We definitely have enough barbie's in our house and I don't think Jana or I can handle any more drama. I can't imagine having another girl, I would most likely have to live outside in a tent. But as long as the baby's healthy, we don't care what it is.

Well, I am assuming that this is going to be my responsiblity to keep this thing updated... I was hoping Jana would take it over. :-)

Looking back, the past few month's have been pretty eventful. (That's probably why I haven't had the time to update anything.) We have had Easter, we celebrated Ella's Birthday, took a family vacation to Yellowstone, Jana was able to come along with me to Orlando for a work conference and the girls have had fun enjoying their summer just running through the sprinklers.

Jana Turns 1/3 of a Century Years Old!!!

Due to the tough economic times, we were unable to purchase enough boxes of candles to cover each of years Jana has been on this earth. Instead we borrowed a scented candle from the bathroom. Don't worry, no one licked the bottom of the candle. (Ashley did try).

For those of you who can't tell what the cake is suppose to be, it is a "crabby paddy". Sponge Bob Square Pants reference.

Unfortunately Sponge Bob was unable to make this crabby paddy, so Stephanie stepped in a made it. Thanks Steph!

Been a long time...

It has been almost 2 months since we last posted anything. (we're sorry we have let blogger-nation down). Over the past 2 months we have played in the snow, made gingerbread houses, had Christmas and I even grew a sweet beard... Now it is time to post some photos. Hope you enjoy.

X-mas Tree Hunting

We have traditionally had a real Christmas tree in our home each year. This year we decided to go cut one down ourselves. We left early Saturday morning with Grandma (Joanie) and Grandpa (Scott). We drove down to Ephraim, which was about an hour and a half ride. We brought plenty of warm clothing, a chainsaw and the 4-wheeler with us.

Grandma made sure the girls were all bundled up. There was actually some snow up where we were tree hunting.
We loaded up the chainsaw and jumped on the 4-wheeler. And we were off...

After about 5 minutes into the ride Ashley kept falling asleep. I am sure it had something to do with waking up at 6 in the morning... She is a late sleeper, like her mom.

We let her catch some shut eye while we were getting picking out the tree.

The Disneyland Vacation

We made it!!! 7 days at the happiest place on earth. I would say overall the trip was a success. No major tragedies or hang ups. In fact, I would say things turned out even better than expected.

The packing and preparation for the trip was a little stressful. And the flight out was a bit of an adventure; getting through security with two little girls, car seats, strollers and our carry-ons. But that being said, it was definitely better than spending 13+ hours in the car.

The best part of the trip for me was watching the girls. I thought we had made a pretty big deal about the trip and where we were going... But it really didn't sink in for them. The whole thing was a new exciting experience, from the plane there to the plane ride home.

I thought 7 days was going to be way too long, but it wasn't that bad. (Not to say we weren't exhausted by the end). It gave us time to go to Knott's Berry Farm, the Beach and even catch a major league play-off game. (Dodger dogs aren't all they are cracked up to be).

As you can see, a fun time was had by all. There are probably a hundred more photos or so that I could have posted on here. A lot of good memories to remember. For the girls, I don't know how much of it they will end up remembering, but for them, I think this trip really was a dream come true. It is different going as a parent and watching them take it all in. (Man, I am really starting to sound corny. Either it's getting late or I am getting old). I am posting this and going to bed. Boots n' chaps & COWBOY HATS

In our continued efforts to fit in among the locals, we got the girls some pink cowboy hats. Ashley seems to like hers the most.

We've got the horse, we've got the hats... I think we should be set. I have made it perfectly clear that we will not be compromising our standards by listening to any of that country & western devil's music. We've "Gone Country" just about as far we are going to go.

We just got back from Disneyland a couple of days ago, so we should have some more pictures to post shortly. This blog was suppose to be Jana's project. I will have to see if I can get her to post them in the next day or two. She can be a little scared when it comes to computers. ;-)

New Member of the Family

We just got a new member of our family this weekend. We decided to fit in with the folks here in Genola, so we got a baby horse. She is a filly and about a year old. She is very calm and friendly, and the girls love her. Although, Grandpa Scott's two other horses have been jealous of all the attention she has been getting. They gave her a little bit of a beating the first night here.

We were going to name her Kriscindy, in honor of my twin aunts, Kris and Cindy. (Inside family joke). But, we decided to keep the name the owner we bought her from had, which is Trixy. We'll call her Trix for short.

Don't worry, we didn't trade Ashley for the horse. She isn't in any of the pictures, because she was taking a nap. We Will get some pictures of her and Trixy on here soon.
